Essential Job Functions

Serves as a sworn officer of the 4th Judicial District Court. Performs a variety of duties including assessments, screening, investigating, interviewing and case management of defendants for Personal Recognizance (PR) Bond consideration. Assesses risk factors and provides recommendations to the Court for supervised pretrial release with potential security and/or alcohol/drug monitoring; submits revocation motions when conditions are violated. Acts as liaison to the Sheriff's Office, Courts and other criminal justice agencies.

Identifies, screens, interviews, investigates and recommends defendants for PR Bond consideration.

Completes and reviews criminal history checks and follow-up investigations to verify information provided during the PR Bond process.

Assesses risk factors and provides written recommendations to trial courts for PR Bond release with or without conditions.

Writes accurate appearance bonds for approval by the Courts.

Determines victim impact and notification as required by statute; notifies victims of potential PR bond as appropriate.

Monitors alcohol/drug testing and/or compliance with other conditions of defendants approved and placed on PR Bond. May complete alcohol/drug testing or coordinate with outside agency for testing as required under PR Bond conditions.

Coordinates and issues a revocation for defendant upon condition violation; completes necessary revocation paperwork.

Serves as a technical resource related to PR Bonds; assists with the training of staff as needed.

Records/tracks defendant information related to placement or removal from PR Bonds and court date compliance/outcomes; provides monitoring information as needed.

Serves as a liaison to court, District Attorney, Probation, and other criminal justice and treatment agencies for PR Bond defendants; conducts research and provides documentation as necessary.

Interacts and coordinates with internal and external staff involved with the PR Bond process and Pretrial Services program.

Maintains accurate documentation and files.

Attends workshops and/or meetings as needed.

May appear in court as requested to provide pre-trial release information.

Performs other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Social Science, Criminal Justice or related field preferred.

Minimum two (2) years related experience in the criminal justice field preferred.

Knowledge of court procedures, criminal justice system, and Colorado state statutes pertaining to Pre-Trial Release highly desired.

Ability to evaluate individuals, collect and analyze data, assess risk and stability factors, and formulate reports.

Must be honest, trustworthy and possess a high degree of personal integrity.

Ability to preserve departmental, court, law enforcement, victim and defendant confidentiality.

Ability and willingness to handle potentially hostile defendants.

Ability to use a computer and basic office equipment.

Ability to work well independently and as part of a team.

Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the public.

Must possess strong telephone, public interaction, written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to work within a secured environment, follow and understand strict security guidelines as set by the El Paso County Sheriff.

An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be substituted for the education and experience requirements above.

Must pass conditional post offer background investigation, drug screen and motor vehicle record check.

Licenses/Certificates

Must be approved as a sworn officer (PR Bond Commissioner) of the 4th Judicial District Court within 30 days of employment.

Ability to obtain NCIC/CCIC certification within 30 days of employment.

Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado Driver's License.
