Job Description Western State Hospital (WSH) is recruiting for a Security Officer Senior who will maintain a safe environment for both patients and staff at the hospital and The Commonwealth Center for Children and Adolescents (CCCA). This is accomplished through the provision of support to the clinical staff in the units and treatment milieu management. Position hours will be either second or third shift with rotating weekends and holidays. Shift Hours: Second 16:00-24:00 Third 24:00 - 08:00 Minimum Qualifications The successful applicant must have previous experience in law enforcement, security, or a related field. Basic computer skills are required. A valid Virginia Driver's License is required. The successful applicant must be a high school graduate or equivalent. Applicants must have the ability to complete SCOP (Special Conservator of the Peace) training and obtain certificate. Preferred Qualifications Prefer candidates with experience working in a mental health environment. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups, and/or in an emotionally charged situation is preferred. Candidates who have experience working with a diverse demographic population will be ideal. Bi-lingual in Spanish is preferred. Special Requirements The successful applicant must pass a criminal background investigation, drug screening test and employment reference check. The applicant must have the ability to perform at the level of physical demands noted on the Employee Work Profile and the verified ability to perform the essential functions of the position. No person with a criminal conviction for a misdemeanor involving a) moral turpitude, b) assault and battery, c) damage to real or personal property, d) controlled substances or imitation controlled substances as defined in Article 1(18.2-247 et seq.) of chapter 7 of Title 18.2, e) prohibited sexual behavior as described in Article 7 (18.2-61 et seq.) of Chapter 4 of Title 18.2, or f) firearms, or any felony, or who is required to register with the Sex Offender and crimes Against Minors Registry pursuant to Chapter 9 (9.1-900 et seq.) of Title 9.1, or who is prohibited from possessing, transporting , or purchasing a firearm shall be eligible for registration or appointment as a special conservator of the peace.
