FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
The Department of Social Sciences at Queensborough Community College invites applications for the position of Instructor or Assistant Professor in Criminal Justice. The candidate will perform teaching, research and guidance duties in area(s) of expertise as noted below and will share responsibility for committee and department assignments, performing administrative, supervisory, and other functions as may be assigned.

As a community college in the CUNY system, our diverse student population primarily takes general education and lower division courses for university transfer. The teaching workload will not exceed 25 hours for the academic year; summer optional. Faculty on Assistant Professor tenure track receive reassigned time to pursue scholarship. Teach introductory criminal justice courses and electives. Participate in Departmental and College activities including committees, course and program assessment, curriculum development and preparation of grants. Provide academic support and advisement for students. For faculty in Instructor title documented progress towards completion of a Doctorate is required for continued appointment. For faculty in Assistant Professor rank, continued scholarly activities are required for tenure and promotion. Some evening or weekend teaching may be required. Position to start in Fall 2019.
We offer an Associate of Science degree in Criminal Justice (a Dual/Joint A.S./B.A. Degree Program in conjunction with John Jay College of Criminal Justice). The program is housed in the Department of Social Sciences with eight other disciplines and 31 full-time faculty. In addition, we offer an Associate in Arts (A.A.) Degree in Elementary and Early Childhood Education (a Dual/Joint A.A./B.A. Degree Program in conjunction with Queens College) and several concentration programs within the Associate of Arts Liberal Arts and Sciences Degree Program. QUALIFICATIONS
For Instructor:
A Masters’ degree and/or active ABD status in a Criminal Justice program or its equivalent in a related discipline from a regionally accredited institution is required;
For Assistant Professor, a doctorate in Criminal Justice or its equivalent in a related discipline from a regionally accredited institution is required.
Preferred qualifications include:
1) college level teaching experience in Criminal Justice with strong preference for community college teaching experience; 2) college level teaching experience in Sociology and/or Political Science also preferred; 3) scholarship and research interests in Criminal Justice or related discipline(s); 4) research interests in teaching/learning innovation; 5) experience with student-centered and high-impact pedagogy (for more information go to ~~~
6) experience with course and/or program assessment; 7) experience teaching diverse college student populations.
An innovative perspective and non-traditional approach to pedagogy preferred.

Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
