Description: The Shelby County District Attorney's Office is recruiting to fill one, regular, full-time, at will position of Investigator, subject to the policies and procedures of the Shelby County District Attorney's Office as may be amended from time to time. Definition: District Attorney's Investigator under general supervision, performs a variety of complex, highly skilled investigative work, which may include assignments to the most difficult and sensitive investigations calling for unusual methods and techniques, and may include assignment as a Community Liaison Officer at Compact 2020; performs other related duties as required or directed. Job Status: At will, serves at the pleasure of the District Attorney. A complete list of duties can be found by going to **** Qualifications and Requirements: Employment Standards Education : Associate's Degree or Equivalent credit hours completed; AND Experience : Five (5) years of experience in law enforcement work of which two (2) years of experience is in investigative specific law enforcement work; AND A.P.O.S.T. certification must be maintained at all times throughout the employment; Substitution : Additional years of experience may substitute for the required education, and additional education may substitute for the required experience in law, depending on the type and relevance of the experience and/or education to be considered for substitution. Knowledge of : methods, principles and techniques of criminal investigations; methods, principles and techniques of civil investigations; methods and techniques of gathering, evaluating, screening and preserving evidence, including preparing exhibits for trial; provisions of the Alabama Criminal Code; laws of arrest, search and seizure; rules of evidence and court procedures; laws and regulations associated with family support establishment and enforcement activities; techniques of interviewing; techniques of interrogation; structure and activities of the criminal justice system and related agencies; resources available for locating individuals; report writing and record keeping techniques. Ability to : work under volatile conditions and with hostile persons; meet tight deadlines; organize and prioritize workload to manage cases efficiently; testify in court and/or before a Grand Jury in a direct, clear and concise manner; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; drive a car; recall names, facts, faces, and incidents; observe and analyze situations accurately, think and act quickly in emergencies, and adopt an effective course of action; deal effectively with citizens and public officials under conditions requiring tact and judgment; assess the credibility of witnesses; obtain information through interrogations; obtain information through interviews; read and understand technical material; read and understand legal codes and cases; keep accurate notes and prepare clear, concise and comprehensive reports; make sound recommendations and decisions; gather, assemble, analyze and evaluate facts and evidence and draw logical and valid conclusions; operate photographic, recording and graphic equipment; operate computers and use word processing, spreadsheets and databases; use the internet; be familiar with investigative techniques related to social media.
