Eden Prairie's Police Department is committed to offering a customized service to the community, exercising discretion and fairness in enforcement, building public trust in the department, and promoting the professional development of its members.nPosition ResponsibilitiesnThe Police Records Technician performs a variety of administrative and office support functions for the police department. The primary position responsibilities and areas of impact are: Responsible for the systematic management of police records through indexing, data entry, coding, processing, disseminating, organizing, storing, retrieval; ultimate disposal according to the records retention schedule, fulfilling mandatory State and Federal reporting requirements.nResponsible for the transcription of dictated police reports and recorded interview statements as well as typing from handwritten copy and other clerical tasks to support the law enforcement operations of the department.nProvides excellent customer service both on the phone and in-person; provides back-up front desk coverage (i.e. breaks, vacations, and sickness).nAssists the Evidence Technician with evidence/property room functions; ensures evidence is maintained, evidentiary integrity is preserved, the chain of custody record is preserved, and evidence/property is properly disposed of.nCompletes various administrative tasks and projects. While these areas are the primary focus of the position, we believe strongly in teamwork and employees will be called upon to perform a variety of duties as a part of their role with the City.nPosition RequirementsnEducation: High School Diploma, or equivalent (G.E.D.) required. Associates, technical certificate or bachelor's degree in business, administrative or office management preferred.nWork Experience: Minimum of two years general administrative and/or customer service experience required.nTechnical Skills: Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint); excellent data entry and typing skills (60 wpm required); experience with transcription from video recording and digital audio preferred; experience with record management systems and entering large amounts of data preferred.nPhysical Requirements: Physical effort is light for the majority of work with lifting or carrying limited to 25 pounds intermittently.
