GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

The Candidate will be responsible for patrolling the college facilities and properties, providing protection and service to ensure a safe and secure environment for faculty, staff, students and visitors. The STCC Police Department is a service intensive, community-policing agency.
Patrol buildings, grounds and adjacent areas of a state educational institution by foot or patrol vehicle.
Enforce state laws as well as the rules and regulations of the institution; restrain or arrest suspects when necessary.
Investigate incidents/crimes and handle appropriately including related paperwork.
Provide assistance to courts or grand juries in the prosecution of cases.
Enforce campus traffic and safety regulations.
Perform related work as required and assigned by supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
At least one year appropriate experience.
Must be a graduate of an SSPO Massachusetts Special State Police Academy, a full Massachusetts municipal police academy or a full police academy approved and accepted by the Massachusetts State Police for purposes of obtaining Special State Police Officer certification. An acceptable alternative is successful completion of MPTC Reserve Intermittent program along with an Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice.
Must not have had a lapse of sworn law enforcement employment greater than the last 3 years.
Ability to complete firearms training and certification per State and college requirements.
Ability to obtain a Class A License to Carry.
Must be CPR/AED Certified and First Responder Certified
Possess a current and valid Massachusetts Class D motor vehicle operator's license and clean driving record.
Ability to prepare written reports of investigations, maintain accurate records and analyze data.
Ability to follow and provide effective oral and written instructions in a precise, understandable manner.
Ability to exercise sound judgments; maintain calm manner in stressful situations; make decisions and act quickly in emergency/dangerous situations, and maintain confidential information.
Working knowledge of police procedures and practices and fire prevention methods; ability to recognize fire hazards.
Working knowledge of the law of arrest and criminal procedure in lower courts.
Working knowledge of the rules and regulations pertaining in general to the buildings and grounds of a state educational institution and the ability to apply and explain the policies and procedures to others.
Ability to interface professionally with the public
Must understand and demonstrate community policing principles.
Ability to maintain student discipline.
Ability to walk alone for long periods of time both indoors and out under varying climate conditions.
Knowledge of the principles & correct usage of the English language, including grammar/punctuation/spelling.
Ability to apprehend non-compliant and compliant offenders who break the law.
Ability to work harmoniously with all other members of the department.
Ability to perform duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
Candidate must pass a thorough, pre-employment background investigation, physical, and drug screening. .
There are multiple positions available.
Candidate will be assigned to one of three (3) permanent Saturday/Sunday shifts: 7:00 am - 3:00pm, 3:00 pm - 11:00 pm or 11:00 pm - 7:00 am. The position will eventually be every other weekend, but may start out as every weekend until the department is fully staffed. Candidate must be CPR/AED Certified and First Responder Certified. Applicants must pass a thorough, pre-employment background investigation, physical, and drug screening. Final candidate will undergo a psychological exam.
Part-time - Weekends (Sat/Sun) ~ 16 hours per week
