Continuously handle their responsibilities to the best of their ability.
Be pleasant, courteous, accommodating, considerate and helpful to patients, visitors, staff, and employees.

Understand departmental success happens with the cooperation of the community we serve.
Promptly report for duty at the designated time for roll call and assignment.

Attentively listen and note the orders and instructions passed on at roll call.
After roll call, they will proceed to assigned posts and zones without delay.
Be thoroughly familiar with the hospital campus, including various clinics, departments, officers, fire extinguishers, fire hoses, fire alarm boxes, parking lots, and bus transportation.

Relay this information in a pleasant and courteous manner whenever requested.
Assist all patients, visitors, and staff to the best of their ability.
Be familiar with every form of activity on their posts or patrol zones so they will be able to recognize any unusual or suspicious activity.
Unless specifically instructed, should be noticed while on patrol.
Promptly respond to any situation that may involve the detainment, or arrest, of an individual. In these situations, it is preferable that, if possible, the police officers implement the actual detainment. Only police officers may implement an arrest, protective service officers will assist.
At least one police officer will always be present during a prisoner transport.
In the event of a detainment or an arrest the police officer will generate the departmental report. The police officer will also be the reporting officer in regards to any external law enforcement agencies report.
There will always be, at least, two police officers per each shift, and, at least, one police officer, on duty, at all times.
If only one police officer is on duty, he will be assigned a non-stationary zone in the interest of responding to potential arrest incidents.
Police personnel should be aware that confidence of hospital staff and employees can be developed by performing duties in a professional and courteous manner.

It is unprofessional to lounge or loiter around the hospital or lean against walls or other objects.
Shall not linger in the Police office, or locker room, unless on legitimate business.
When performing requested door unlocks, they will determine the person for whom they are unlocking the door is the person who made the request or is a legitimate representative of the requester.
Not leave assigned posts, or patrol zones, for break, lunch, or any other reason without prior approval of the shift supervisor unless in the interest of urgent departmental business. The dispatcher must be kept aware at all times as well.
Police officers will perform all OLEG, LEADS inquiries for the department. They will be the only personnel with that access, with the possible exception of departmental management.
Responsible for what occurs in their assigned zone. Work orders must be addressed, safety concerns must be mitigated. If the assigned zone involves the use of a vehicle, then the assigned officer must perform a vehicle check at the start and end of his tour of duty.

Education Requirements:

Successful completion of the OPOTA police academy.
Must qualify to obtain the current fiscal year OPOTA police firearms certification.
Commission must be currently active.
License Requirements:

Valid Ohio driver’s license
High school diploma or equivalent
CPR training (preferred, not required)
Experience & Knowledge:

Good written and oral communication skills ability to work outdoors
Special Skills & Equipment Knowledge:

Basic computer skills, Firearms training, motor vehicles.
