Job Summary\/Essential Duties: Schedule : PRN\/On-call Has regular interaction with behavioral services patients\/clients, requiring mature judgement, broad experience and training specific to highly volatile personalities\/situations. Works in close concert with clinical staff of behavioral units. Officers in this position will be required to quickly assess situations and take appropriate action. Must know and comply with Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA), as well as, Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Health Care Organizations (JCAHO) standards, especially those related to Seclusion and Restraint for Behavior Management. While performing tours of facilities, examines access control points for appropriate security, assesses environment of care deficiencies (e.g. lights out, fire-doors broken, excessive hallway clutter, missing fire extinguishers, etc.), and observes general activity of operations for any safety and\/or security concerns. Appropriately follows-up with any noted deficiencies. Operates audio\/visual monitoring systems, including computer-linked security and access control systems. Responds to computer system messages and alarms according to established security policies and procedures. While patrolling grounds, thoroughfares and parking area, checks vehicles in restricted areas for parking authorization and ensures that all emergency access is unobstructed. Observes general condition of and activity surrounding these areas for any safety and\/or security concerns. Appropriately follows-up with any noted deficiencies, including the issuance of parking citations. Escorts employees, patients and visitors to and from parking lots or between buildings, as requested, and ensures the protection of employees in parking lots during shift changes. Confronts persons in unauthorized areas or who are behaving in a suspicious or unruly manner. May question, give directions to, delay, or subdue individuals depending upon the severity of the circumstances; under direction of city or state police, may be required to hold or restrain individuals involved in illegal or dangerous activities. Responds to all announced \Code\ emergencies occurring on hospital property, such as combative patients, fire alarms, bomb threats, or other disaster situations. Emergency and \on demand\ response to certain off-site clinics may also be required (see Security policies for details). Monitors and escorts all Court or County Committal (Mental Health\/Behavioral Services) patients processed through Mercy Hospital Emergency Services or Immanuel Medical Center Emergency Department or Mental Health Center. Also monitors voluntary patients who may be considered a danger to self or others and all patients considered chemically dependent who may or may not be seeking treatment. Searches all personal property for weapons, medications, illegal drugs or drug paraphernalia to insure the safety of patients and staff. QUALIFICATIONS Experience Previous relevantexperience in security, law enforcement, or military police work, withdemonstrated ability to perform security duties in highly volatile environmentsand situations is preferred. Experience with healthcare securityresponsibilities is highly desirable. Education\/Licensure Prefer a highschool education or GED. An AssociateDegree or Bachelor Degree in Security Administration, Criminal Justice, or arelated field is preferred. Required: Must be at least21 years of age have a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving recordrequired. Position requires the incumbent to be approved to drive by the CHIHealth insurance provider. Must complete and pass the CHI Health Ergonomic JobAnalysis. BLS or BLS instructor certification is required upon hire. Acceptable credentialing bodies and certifications include the following: American Red Cross: CPR\/AED for the Professional Rescuer or American Heart Association: Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers. Additional requirements: Incumbent mustmaintain current certification in Pressure Point Control Tactics (PPCT).Incumbent must attain initial (PPCT) certification within nine months of hiredate. All securityofficers who work in the state of Iowa must complete mandatory reporter (childand\/or vulnerable\/dependent abuse or neglect reporting) training within 6months of hire and recertify every 5 years. Knowledge\/Skills\/Abilities The incumbent musthave basic knowledge of security systems, procedures, and enforcement codes.Job requires excellent written communication skills for preparing reports andevaluations; comprehensive reading skills for reading procedures, policies,reports, and labels; and critical listening and verbal communication skillswhen communicating with patients, visitors, doctors, and co-workers. Basiccompetence with personal computers and limited keyboarding skills willfacilitate working independently. Must possess strong time-management andorganization skills.
