Description The performs a variety of complex administrative, professional, and supervisory work in directing, planning, and coordinating the activities of the Police Department in order to insure the safety of the public. He/She works effectively with other law enforcement agency representatives, city manager and staff, elected officials, and members of the public to meet the changing needs of the Department and citizens of Sunray. This position will be a working Chief who will be responsible to ensure the implementation of goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and standards for the department. The Chief will partake in the strategic planning covering the use of resources, coordinating activities, and ensuring high quality service. The Chief will contributes to the development and implementation of projects and programs to maximize police services in coordination with the Mayor, City Council, other city departments, and public and private organizations. Code Compliance/Animal Control will be under the direction of the Police Chief Other tasks include directing investigation of major crimes in coordination with other agencies as well as providing assistance to the City Attorney, County Attorney and District Attorney in case preparation. The police chief will also help in the preparation of the department budget, supervises the maintenance of departmental files. Starting salary is negotiable based on qualifications and experience. Must possess a valid peace officer license issued by Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE). High school graduation or its equivalent.
