Job Summary:

The Senior Sergeant reporting to a Police Lieutenant is responsible for officer training, investigation and coordination with outside public safety agencies as well supervising others in carrying out these functions.The Senior Segeant also has the capability of leading and supervising a work shift of Public Safety Officers.

Essential Responsibilities:

Responsible for overseeing investigations and follow up of all crimes that occur within BIDMC's jurisdiction.

Reviews all IMC reports to determine necessary investigation and or follow up on a daily basis with our criminal investigators. Supplements original reports and closes IMC completed cases.

Responsible for filing criminal complaints as deemed appropriate with local court magistrates' office and be responsible for informing officers and witness of court dates and act as the court officer for the department

Responsible for maintaining weekly tracking sheets of criminal investigations and developing a monthly criminal investigations activity report to be submitted to the Criminal Investigations Supervisor (Lieutenant).

Responsible for responding to the needs and inquiries of the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center community, and strives for a safe and secure environment for patients, staff and visitors by providing security of buildings, grounds, and parking areas throughout Medical Center campus. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency policy.

Responsible for ensuring operational efficiency, planning, scheduling and incident response. As the Senior Sergeant, he/she is responsible for maintaining community relations. Maintains a cooperative relationship with the Police Lieutenant and the Public Safety staff.

Responsible for the training, compliance, scheduling, quality and allocation of work for members of the Department of Public Safety's Police/Security Divisions

Provides feedback and input to Public Safety Supervisors to support improvement in key areas including, but not limited to, patient watches, crime statistics, security response times, restraint information.

Responsible for maintaining patient confidentiality and informs the Public Safety Supervisors (Police Lieutenants) of all instances of necessary statutory reporting to state and federal agencies

Responds to the needs and inquiries of the BIDMC community, and strives for a safe and secure environment for patients, staff and visitors by either performing tasks related to position or notifying appropriate staff person.

Required Qualifications:

High School diploma or GED required. Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice preferred.

License MA ClassA Lrg capacity firearm required.

3-5 years related work experience required in and 2-4 years supervisory/management experience required.

Valid drivers license required. Regularly meet BIDMC firearms qualification and police/BIDMC training standards required. Meet and maintain qualification standards set by State/Federal Govt, necessary for approval to access CJIS terminal points.

Meet and maintain qualifications standards set by the Mass. State Police and Suffolk County Sheriff Department for appointment as a Special State Police Officer and a Suffolk County Deputy Sheriff required. Includes meeting and maintaining medical/physical and psychological standards suitable for a police officer.

Pass investigative background check for suitability for this position which meets BIDMC, State and Federal regulatory policies and/or standards.

Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.

Ability to provide a high level of customer service to patients, visitors, staff and external customers in a professional, service-oriented, respectful manner using skills in active listening and problem solving. Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.

Physical Nature of the Job:

Heavy work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or 50 pounds of force frequently. Work is physically demanding and requires extended periods of standing and/or moving.
